Pandorina morum Bory

Japanese: クワノミモ（英語表記）Pandorina morum Bory

This organism is made up of 16-32 spherical or nearly elliptical cells with two flagella attached together, giving it a shape reminiscent of a mulberry fruit. It is a colonial green alga that belongs to the Volvocaceae family of the Volvocales order as a plant, and is classified as a Pandorina genus. As an animal, it is known by the Japanese name Katamarihigemawari and belongs to the Volvocales order of the Phytoflagellates class, Volvocales order, Trichophora subphylum, Protozoa superclass, and Flagellates subphylum. The overall shape of the colony is nearly spherical, with a diameter of 30-60 μm. Each constituent cell is about 10 μm in size, and contains a cup-shaped chloroplast and pyrenoid inside.

2本の鞭毛をもつ球形ないし楕円形に近い細胞が16～32個接着し，あたかもクワの果実を思わせる形状の生物で，分類上，植物としてはボルボックス目ボルボックス科パンドリナ属に所属する群体性緑藻。また，動物としてはカタマリヒゲマワリという和名で呼ばれ，原生動物門有毛根虫亜門鞭毛虫上綱植物性鞭毛虫綱ボルボックス目に属する。群体の全形はほぼ球形で，径30～60μm。構成細胞は大きさ約10μmで，内部に1個の杯状の葉緑体とピレノイドをもつ。
