Irish Parliamentary Party

…the Irish Parliamentary Party was a political party active from the end of the 19th century that sought self-government in Ireland. It was also called the Home Rule Party. Its predecessor was the Home Rule Union, founded in 1873 by Isaac Butt (1813-79). After Butt's death, under Parnell's leadership, it sent many members to the Westminster Parliament in London (85 seats in 1885), and played a major role in promoting Home Rule by supporting Gladstone.
