...Around 1841 (Tenpo 12), there were 1225 households in the nine villages around the castle, with 5 people per household, so there were about 6000 people living there. If we add the 3000 samurai population, there were about 9000 people living there. The festival of Kuwayama Shrine in Kamiyata Village was revived in 1681 (Tenwa 1), and with the protection of the feudal lord, it became more popular every year, with the procession entering the castle and the Kakiyamahikiyama parading through the town, making it the most lively festival in Kuchitanba, but it is now known as the Kameoka Festival (October 24-25). Local specialties include matsutake mushrooms, chestnuts, Japanese pepper, tobacco, and whetstones. ...
