A pest insect of the Lepidoptera family, Pyralidae, whose larvae parasitize mulberry trees. It is commonly known as the mulberry nest bug. Although it varies depending on the region, it appears about four times a year, overwintering as larvae on tree trunks or among fallen leaves. It pupates the following spring, and the first generation of adults emerges in late spring. The descendants of these adults live inside new leaves that are stitched together or folded up, eating one side of the leaves, making them translucent. The second generation of adults emerges in early summer, and their descendants feed on mulberry leaves in summer. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
