...It is synonymous with the word "Ooyakekata" found in the Tale of Genji and The Pillow Book from the mid-Heian period, and was used to refer to the nobles and the Imperial Court as the opposite of "shi" (private), as seen in the August 1181 (Youwa 1) Komonshomonchushu (Todaiji documents) of Goshirakawa Incho, "Kubou saimono" (Kubou saimonsu) and the August 1256 (Kōgen 1) Kanshin'in Mandokoro Shimobunan (Yasaka Shrine documents) of Kanji. This usage was seen throughout the Middle Ages, but an early example of this was the use of the word "Ooyakekata" to refer to the Shogun in the mid-Kamakura period, when the Shogun's Migiyosho (Shogun's official letter) of 1283 (Kōan 6) was called "Kubou Gokyosho" (Shogun's official letter). *Some of the terminology explanations that refer to "Oyakekata" are listed below.
