Chloroiridate - Chloroiridium salt (English spelling)

Salts containing iridium with oxidation states 3 and 4 and a regular octahedral hexachloroiridate ion in which six chloride ions are coordinated are known.

The chemical formula is M ^I ₃ [IrCl ₆ ] (M ^I is a monovalent cation). It is obtained by reducing an aqueous solution or solid of ^{M I} ₂ [IrCl ₆ ]. It appears as olive green, greenish red, brown or black crystals. The potassium and ammonium salts are quite soluble in water, but the rubidium and cesium salts are only slightly soluble.
