Materialistic research

Japanese: 唯物論研究 - ゆいぶつろんけんきゅう

This is the journal of the Materialism Research Society, which was founded in 1932. It was first published in November of the same year. The society was established as an academic research group on materialism, bringing together a diverse group of members, mainly materialists such as Oka Kunio and Tosaka Jun, and was active in holding regular monthly study meetings and small gatherings. As it was a non-political activity, it escaped persecution, and from around 1935 it had a great influence on intellectuals and students as the only progressive research society. Contributors to the magazine included Oka, Tosaka, Saegusa Hirone, Ogura Kinnosuke, Kozai Yoshishige, Kato Tadashi, Nagata Hiroshi, Mori Koichi, and Funayama Shinichi, and they actively discussed natural science, social science, philosophy, art theory, and more.

1932年に創立された唯物論研究会の機関誌。同年11月創刊。同会は唯物論の学問的研究団体として設立され，岡邦雄，戸坂潤ら唯物論者を中心に多彩なメンバーを結集し，毎月定期に研究会，小集会を開いて活動した。非政治的活動のため弾圧は免れ，35年ころからは唯一の進歩的研究会として知識人，学生に大きな影響を与えた。雑誌の執筆者は，岡，戸坂のほか三枝博音，小倉金之助，古在由重，加藤正，永田広志，森宏一，船山信一らで，自然科学，社会科学，哲学，芸術論等について活発に論じた。
