Blackbird (black songbird)

Japanese: クロウタドリ(黒歌鳥) - クロウタドリ（英語表記）blackbird

A passerine bird of the family Flycatcher. It is about 25cm long and is a large thrush. The male is entirely black with only a yellow beak. The female is entirely dark brown. It is found in Europe, southern Asia and northern Africa, and some have been introduced to New Zealand. It lives in parks, farmland and forests, and hops around on the ground searching for and eating earthworms and insects. It feeds by brushing fallen leaves aside with its beak in a manner similar to that of the Japanese red-flanked thrush and Japanese black thrush. When nuts are in season, it also picks and eats them from the trees.

スズメ目ヒタキ科の鳥。全長約25cm，いわゆる大型ツグミ類で，雄は全体に黒く，くちばしだけが黄色い。雌は全体に暗褐色でじみ。ヨーロッパ，アジア南部，アフリカ北部に分布し，ニュージーランドには移入されたものがいる。公園，農耕地，林にすみ，地上をピョンピョンはねながらミミズや昆虫を探し出して食べる。落葉をくちばしではねのけながら採食するようすは，日本のアカハラやクロツグミと同様である。木の実のある時期には，樹上でもそれらをとって食べる。
