Around 1350 - 1415
A Byzantine man of letters. He converted to Catholicism after studying under Cydones Demetrios, who introduced Thomas theology to the Byzantine world. He was sent to Western Europe several times by Emperor Manuel II as an envoy to defend against the Ottoman Turks. In 1397 he was invited to Florence by Coluccio Salutati, a promoter of the Renaissance, to teach Greek, and among his students were such humanists as Bruni, Poggi, and Filelfo. He died there shortly after the start of the Council of Constance.

ビザンティン帝国の文人。トマス神学のビザンティン世界への紹介者キュドネス･デメトリオスの教えをうけ，カトリックに改宗。対オスマン･トルコ防衛の使節として，皇帝マヌエル2世により何回か西ヨーロッパに派遣される。1397年文芸復興の推進者コルッチオ･サルターティによりフィレンツェに招かれてギリシア語を教え，門下からブルーニ，ポッジ，フィレルフォなどの人文主義者が輩出した。コンスタンツ公会議開始直後同地で死去。
