A woman in Greek mythology. Daughter of the Spartan king Tyndareus and his wife Leda, sister of the Dioscuri and Helen. She became the wife of Agamemnon, but resented him for sacrificing her daughter Iphigeneia to Artemis at Aulis in order to ensure the success of his expedition to Troy. She had an affair with Aegisthus while Agamemnon was away on the campaign trail, and conspired with her lover to ambush and kill Agamemnon when he returned from Troy. She then placed Aegisthus on the throne of Mycenae and persecuted his daughter Electra. However, seven years later, Orestes, who had come of age and returned to the country to avenge his father, killed her along with Aegisthus.
