Born on July 5, 1894. His wife was Oya Masako. He joined Suzuki Shoten, and in 1925 he moved to Teikoku Rayon Co., Ltd. (later Teijin), where he became president in 1945. In 1947 he became a member of the House of Councillors (elected twice, Liberal Democratic Party). He served as Minister of Commerce and Industry and Minister of Transport in the second and third Yoshida Cabinets. In 1956 he returned to the position of president of Teijin, where he introduced the technology to manufacture Tetoron. He passed away on March 9, 1980, at the age of 85. He was from Gunma Prefecture. He graduated from Tokyo Higher Commercial School (now Hitotsubashi University).
