A general term for animals in the genus Glisson, family Mustelidae, order Carnivora, class Mammalia. There are three species in the genus Galictis : Glisson vittata , found in Colombia, Peru, and Brazil ; Glisson allamandi , found in Panama and Mexico; and Glisson cuja , found in Peru, Uruguay, and Chile. The first two species are sometimes lumped together. Glisson is 48-55 cm long and 16 cm long, while the latter two species are 40-45 cm long and 15-19 cm long. The back is gray or yellowish gray, but the forehead and neck are white, and the face, throat, and limbs are black. There is a clear black and white division from above the eyes to the neck. They live in both grasslands and forests, occupying burrows dug by other animals, such as the rodent Viscacha, and live together in groups. They are omnivorous, eating mice, small birds, frogs, insects, and fruit. They give birth to 2-4 young in October.
