Battle of Kurikara Pass - Battle of Kurikara Pass

Japanese: 俱利伽羅峠の戦 - くりからとうげのたたかい
Battle of Kurikara Pass - Battle of Kurikara Pass
It is also called the Battle of Tonamiyama. It is a battle that took place in May 1183 (Juei 2) at Kurogara Pass on the border between Etchu and Kaga, where Kiso Yoshinaka defeated the army of Taira no Koremori. Yoshinaka raised his army in Shinano in September 1180 (Jisho 4), conquered Shinano and Echigo, and by 1181 had many warriors in the Hokuriku region east of Echizen under his command. In 1182, the war situation was stable nationwide, with the Taira clan in Kyoto, Minamoto no Yoritomo in the east, and Yoshinaka in the Hokuriku region competing for power. In April of the following year, the Taira clan, led by Koremori, sent a large army of 100,000 men to the Hokuriku region, and after skirmishes in Echizen and Kaga, the decisive battle began at Kurogara Pass on May 11.
