King of the Vandals (reigned 428?-477). The Vandals, who had settled in Spain since 409, were oppressed by the Visigoths, so in 429 he led the entire Vandal people to Africa, where he occupied the city of Carthage in 439 and established the Vandal Kingdom. In 442 he put down a rebellion by the Vandal nobles, established his autocratic power, and, backed by the naval power he inherited from Carthage, gained control of the seas in the Western Mediterranean, occupied Corsica, Sardinia, and Sicily, and sacked the city of Rome in 455. He also oppressed Catholic bishops and large landowners from the Arian perspective, which caused resentment among the Roman residents, and the kingdom rapidly declined after his death.

バンダル人の王（在位428？～477）。409年以降スペインに定住したバンダル人は、その後西ゴート人から圧迫されたため、429年彼は全バンダル人を率いてアフリカに渡り、439年カルタゴ市を占領してバンダル王国を建てた。442年バンダル貴族の反乱を鎮圧して、専制的権力を確立、カルタゴから継承した海軍力を背景に、西地中海の制海権を握り、コルシカ、サルデーニャ、シチリアを占領したほか、455年にはローマ市の略奪を行った。またアリウス派の立場から、カトリックの司教や大土地所有者を圧迫したので、ローマ系住民の反感を買い、彼の死後、王国は急速に衰退した。
