Japanese: 鷹巣[町] - たかのす

An old town in Kitaakita County, occupying the main part of the Takanosu Basin and the surrounding mountainous areas in northern Akita Prefecture. The central settlement on the right bank of the Yoneshiro River developed as a river port for the collection and distribution of rice and timber, and the Ou Main Line runs through it, where the Akita Inland Longitudinal Railway branches off. The town produces timber and rice, and also engages in field crops and livestock farming. Odate-Noshiro Airport opened in July 1998. In March 2005, it merged with Moriyoshi Town, Ani Town, and Aikawa Town in Kitaakita County to become a city, Kitaakita City. 325.97 ^km2 . Population 21,820 (2003).

秋田県北部，鷹巣盆地の主部と周辺の山地を占める北秋田郡の旧町。米代(よねしろ)川右岸の中心集落は米，木材を集散する河港として発達，奥羽本線が通じ秋田内陸縦貫鉄道が分岐する。木材，米を産し，畑作，畜産も行う。1998年７月大館能代空港が開港した。2005年３月北秋田郡森吉町，阿仁町，合川町と合併し市制，北秋田市となる。325.97km²。２万1820人（2003）。
