A colloquial name for bear bile. It is made from the dried gallbladder of the Asiatic black bear, brown bear, and Himalayan bear. It is a dark brown egg-shaped disk and has been used since ancient times as a stomachic and tonic. The active ingredient is taurodeoxyursocholic acid.
