The castle town of the Satake clan of the Akita domain, located in Akita County, Dewa Province. Currently Akita City. In 1602, the Satake clan was transferred to Akita, and the following year they chose the site of Shinmeiyama in Kubota (Kubota) Township to build a castle, which they named Kubota Castle. At the same time as the castle was built, the town was laid out, with the east side of Horikawa River (now Asahikawa River), which flows south along the west side of the castle, designated as Uchimachi (Samurai Town), and the townspeople's town of Tomachi (Tower Town) on the west side. The town was laid out parallel to Uchimachi, with the areas that would later become the core of the town, such as Omachi-kacho and Torimachi, first formed, and Teramachi was established to the west of them. Tomachi was placed under the control of the town magistrate, and was the center of the market within the domain. In 1788, Tomachi had 2,294 houses and 928 tenement houses and rented houses. In 1663, there were 43 temples. In 1871, it was renamed Akitamachi.

出羽国秋田郡に所在した秋田藩佐竹氏の城下町。現在の秋田市。1602年秋田に移封となった佐竹氏は，翌年窪田（久保田）郷の神明山の地を選び築城，久保田城と称した。築城とともに町割りも開始され，城の西側を南流する堀川（現旭川）の東側を内(うち)町（侍町）とし，西側には町人町の外(と)町が造られた。町割りは内町に並行して，まず大町各丁や通町など後に町の中核となる部分が形成され，その西側に寺町が設置された。外町は町奉行の支配下に置かれ，領内市場の中心であった。1788年の外町の戸数2294，長屋・借屋928。寺院は1663年には43ヵ寺があった。1871年秋田町と改称。
