A former town in Saga County, central Saga Prefecture. Located on the Saga Plain, rice cultivation is thriving, and seaweed is cultivated along the Ariake Sea coast. The Karatsu Line branches off from Kubota Station on the Nagasaki Main Line. In October 2007, it was incorporated into Saga City along with Kawazoe Town and Higashiyoga Town in Saga County. 14.39 km2 . Population: 8,214 (2005).
