…Since the 1970s, EC Zeeman of England has applied Tom's ideas to various phenomena, and has become a pioneer of catastrophe theory alongside Tom. Catastrophe phenomena can be experimented with using the following system called Zeeman's catastrophe machine. Take two rubber bands, and when they are folded into a line segment without stretching them, their length is 1. As shown in Figure 1, a disk (made of cardboard) with a radius of 1 is fixed to a plane so that it can rotate freely around point A. Small holes are drilled on the circumference of this disk to fix one end of each of the two rubber bands.
