An old town in Hiba County, in the Chugoku Mountains in northern Hiroshima Prefecture. In addition to rice cultivation, Wagyu cattle breeding is also popular. Afforestation has progressed, and timber is produced in abundance. An ancient battlefield between the Mori and Amago clans during the Sengoku period. In March 2005, it was incorporated into Shobara City along with Soryo Town in Kono County, and Saijo Town, Tojo Town, Takano Town, and Hiwa Town in Hiba County. 110.13 km2 . 2676 people (2003). 広島県北部，中国山地中の比婆(ひば)郡の旧町。米作を行うほか，和牛飼育が盛ん。植林が進み，木材の産も多い。戦国時代の毛利氏と尼子氏の古戦場。2005年３月甲奴郡総領町，比婆郡西城町，東城町，高野町，比和町と庄原市へ編入。110.13km2。2676人（2003）。
