A constituent state of the United Arab Emirates. It is also written as Abu Zaby, Abu Dhabi, or Abu Dhabi. In English, it is called Abu Dhabi. Abu Dhabi means "Father of the Antelope." Its area is 67,350 km2 , which is 80% of the federal area, and its population is about 900,000 (1996), which is more than 30% of the federal population. The emir, Zayed, has been the president since the federation was established, and his son, Khalifa, is the crown prince. The capital is Abu Dhabi City, which is located on a small island connected to the mainland by a 460m bridge, and is also the federal capital.
