Johann Friedrich Burgmüller

German composer. He studied under his father, who was the musical director of Dusseldorf. He lived in Paris from 1832 until his death, and gained fame as a piano teacher and composer of salon-style pieces. He left behind many short pieces for children's teaching materials, some of which, such as "Burgmüller's 25 Etudes" (Op. 100), are still widely used as beginner's materials today. His younger brother, Norbert (1810-36), was a composer whose talent was highly praised by Schumann and Mendelssohn, but he died at the early age of 26.

ドイツの作曲家。デュッセルドルフの音楽監督を務めた父に学ぶ。1832年から終生パリに住み、ピアノ教師、サロン風小品の作曲家として名声を得た。子供の教材用に多数の小品を残しており、『ブルクミュラー25練習曲』（作品100）などいくつかが今日も初歩の教材として広く用いられている。なお、弟のノルベルトNorbert（1810―36）は、その才能をシューマンやメンデルスゾーンに高く評価された作曲家であったが26歳で早逝した。
