Arab literary scholar, linguist and philologist. Born in Basra of Iranian Jewish descent. Later he went to Baghdad and engaged in various literary debates with Asma'i in the presence of the Abbasid Caliph Harun al-Rashid. He wrote 105 books on the Quran, Arabic language, Arab war history, etc., but only "Commentary on the Poetry of the Controversy between Jarir and Farazdak" remains. He was a Shubiyya slanderer of Arabs and a Kharijite ideologist. [Ikeda Osamu]
