Compounds with oxidation numbers II, III, and IV are known. [Titanium(II) chloride] Chemical formula: TiCl 2 . A dark reddish brown powder obtained by mixing titanium(IV) chloride TiCl 4 with hydrogen and reducing it with low electrodeless discharge. Specific gravity: 3.13. Decomposes in air, water, ethyl alcohol, etc. Easily oxidized. [Titanium(III) chloride] Anhydrous TiCl3 and hydrates are known. TiCl3 is a deliquescent purple crystal obtained by reducing TiCl4 with excess hydrogen at 650°C. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
