Murom (English spelling)

Japanese: ムーロム（英語表記）Murom

A city in the Vladimir Oblast in the western part of the Russian Federation. It is a river port on the Oka River and one of the oldest towns in Russia. Population 127,000 (1993). It first appeared in the Chronicle under the heading 862. In 1392 it was incorporated into the Grand Duchy of Moscow. Troitsky Monastery, Blagoveshchensky Monastery and Voskresenskaya Church, founded in the 17th century, remain as historical buildings. It was a commercial center as a junction for the railways to Moscow, Kovrov and Kazan, and also has factories for machinery, textiles, sewing machines, etc.

ロシア連邦西部，ウラジーミル州の都市。オカ川の河港で，ロシア最古の町の一つ。人口12万7000(1993)。年代記の862年の項に初めて登場する。1392年にモスクワ大公国に編入された。17世紀に創建されたトロイツキー修道院，ブラゴベシチェンスキー修道院とボスクレセンスカヤ教会が歴史的建築物として残っている。モスクワ，コブロフ，カザンへの鉄道の分岐点で商業地であったが，機械，繊維，ミシンなどの工場もある。
