A type of psychoanalysis that uses anesthetics. A psychiatric treatment method in which the patient is slowly injected with amytal (a barbiturate hypnotic) to prevent sleep, and then interviewed. By eliminating the patient's conscious inhibitions such as tension, anxiety, and resistance, and creating a connection between the doctor and the patient, the doctor allows the patient to express repressed experiences and conflicts, and from that analysis, the type and content of the illness can be diagnosed and treated.
