Metal fog

Japanese: 金属霧 - きんぞくむ（英語表記）metal fog

A phenomenon that occurs in a system where molten salt and metal coexist at high temperatures. The solution is often colored red, blue, black, etc. It is thought to be a cause of metal loss and reduced current efficiency, but the exact cause is unknown. The subcompound theory, colloidal solution theory, gas bubble theory, and true solution theory have all been proposed, but the true solution theory has recently been favored by many people. It is often seen with cadmium, zinc, lead, silver, aluminum, and alkali metals.

溶融塩と金属が高温で共存する系で起る現象。その溶液は赤，青，黒などに着色する場合が多い。金属の消失，電流効率低下の一因と考えられているが，その実体はわかっていない。亜化合物 subcompound説，コロイド溶液説，気泡説，真溶液説などが提出されているが，最近は真溶液説が多くの人に支持されている。カドミウム，亜鉛，鉛，銀，アルミニウム，アルカリ金属でよくみられる。
