Kin Sogetsu

Japanese:
Kin Sogetsu

Korean poet. His real name was Jeong-suk. He was born in North Pyeongan Province. He entered Pei-chai Middle School in 1921, and the following year, on the recommendation of his former teacher Kim Ok, his poems "Dream" and "In the Future" were published in Kaibyaku, which drew a lot of attention. In 1923, he went to Japan and took the entrance exam for Tokyo University of Commerce (now Hitotsubashi University), but failed. However, after returning to Korea the following year, he became a member of the Reitae group and published many poems. His folk-song-style works, which skillfully utilized the seven-five rhythm, captivated many readers. However, his literary activities were only active for a year or two during this period, and it is said that he committed suicide by taking opium ten years later, at the end of 1934. His collection of poems includes Tsutsuji no Hana (Azalea Flowers) (1939).
