Hydrofoil

Japanese: hydrofoil
Hydrofoil

...A ship that has hydrofoils attached to the front and rear of the lower hull by struts, and that floats the hull above the water surface by generating lift. A ship with hydrofoils is said to have been the first to surface and sail in England in 1861, and in 1919 it was recorded to have reached a high speed of about 70 knots. In recent years, for reasons of economy and other reasons, the speed of practical ships is about 35 to 60 knots. The cross-sectional shape of a hydrofoil (called a hydrofoil) is streamlined, and when it sails at an angle of attack against the current, it generates lift due to the pressure difference between the upper and lower surfaces of the wing, just like an airplane wing.
