Kingstown - Kingstown (English spelling)

It is the capital of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, a Windward Island in the eastern Caribbean Sea. It has a population of 15,466 (1991). It is located in the southern part of St. Vincent and has the largest port on the island. This port is the export port for the island's agricultural products and also the port of entry for tourists. The influence of the long period of British rule remains strong, with the Anglican Cathedral, built in the Georgian architectural style, and St. Mary's Catholic Church, which is a mixture of Romanesque and Georgian architectural styles. These churches were built with volcanic ash and sand bricks from the island's volcanic activity. Beautiful houses built in the 19th century line the coast. It has a botanical garden, said to be the oldest in the Western Hemisphere, which was established in 1765 as a quarantine center for medicinal herbs to be sent to Britain.
