Tamatave - Tamatave (English spelling)

A port city in eastern Madagascar, southeast of Africa. It is also called Toamasina. It faces the Indian Ocean. Population: 137,782 (1993 census), 169,800 (2002 estimate). The city is located on a sandy peninsula, and has a variety of industries, including agricultural product processing. It is connected to the inland capital, Antananarivo, by rail. About half of Madagascar's total trade value is imported and exported through this port. The main exports are coffee, vanilla, and cloves, while the imports are oil, capital goods, and consumer goods.

アフリカ南東部、マダガスカル東部にある港湾都市。トアマシナToamasinaともよばれる。インド洋に臨む。人口13万7782(1993センサス)、16万9800(2002推計)。町は砂地の半島部に位置し、農産物加工をはじめとする種々の産業がある。また内陸の首都アンタナナリボとは鉄道で結ばれている。マダガスカルの全貿易額の約半分の商品はこの港を通して輸出入され、主要輸出品としてはコーヒー、バニラ、チョウジで、輸入品としては石油、資本財、消費物資などである。
