…He was active as a Confucian scholar a little later than Gangshu, and contributed to the assimilation of Chinese learning and the development of Confucianism by compiling a method of expressing the Silla language in Chinese characters (later called Rito), devising a method of interpreting Chinese texts in the Silla language (To), and lecturing on Buddhist scriptures. He also held the position of Hanlin and later served as a political advisor to the king, and is known to have written the Fuwangshu (Hwaokai), in which he exhorted King Shinmun (reigned 681-692) to observe moral standards. His posthumous name was Hongru Hou. …
