Visigothic bishop. Also known as Ulphilas. Born in Cappadocia. Appointed bishop by Eusebius in 341, he devoted himself to evangelization. He created the Gothic alphabet by borrowing from Greek and runic characters, and translated the Bible. This is a valuable resource for Germanic language research.
