Kurumada - Kurumada

Japanese:
Kurumada - Kurumada
This refers to a rice planting method in which rice is planted in a circle starting from the center of the field and moving outwards, as well as rice fields planted in this way. It is handed down in particular rice fields of old families in Niigata, Iwate, Gifu, Toyama, etc. It is performed to welcome the descent of the rice field god, while singing rice planting songs. It is a ritual connected to other ceremonies such as Otaue and Hanataue, and the example in Kita-Ushima, Sado is well known. There is also a rice planting method in which rice is planted in the opposite direction, from the outside of the field along the ridges to the center, and in Iwate and Akita prefectures this is called mawariue. Japanese:
