Pressure joining

Pressure joining
A technique for joining metal materials by applying pressure to them in a solid state. In the atmosphere, metal materials are covered with oxide films and cannot be joined by pressure bonding as they are, but they can be joined by removing the surface coating and then pressure bonding. Therefore, pressure welding is possible even in cold conditions. Cold surface film removal takes advantage of the fragility of the oxide film, and causes a certain degree of plastic deformation in the joining metal, which breaks and falls off the film, allowing the material to be pressed. This method is used to join non-ferrous metals. There is also friction welding, in which the materials to be joined are rubbed against each other at high speed, and the joining is achieved by generating heat and removing the film. Hot joining is a method of heating and pressure bonding the joint with a gas flame. The key point is that the high temperature of the joint makes it easier for plastic flow and promotes contact between the metals. A steel pipe made by hot rolling a steel strip into a cylindrical shape and butting the joint at a temperature of about 200°K higher than the surrounding area is called a forge-welded steel pipe.
