...Spiraea, Japanese knotweed, and Tosa Shimotsuke (S. nipponica Maxim. var. tosaensis Makino) are also members of the Spirea family, and all are easy to cultivate and are used as cut flowers. Close relatives of Japanese knotweed include S. blumei G. Don and S. nervosa Franch.et Savat., which grow on rocky ground in Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu west of the Kinki region. Other species that are known to be the same as Tosa Shimotsuke include S. nipponica Maxim. var. nipponica in the Chubu region and north, and S. ogawae Yamanaka in the Kii Peninsula. From the Kanto region north, S. betulifolia Pallas is often seen. ...
