The southernmost seaport in Israel. It is located at the innermost part of the Gulf of Aqaba (Gulf of Eilat), a bay at the northern end of the Red Sea, adjacent to the Port of Aqaba in Jordan. Population: 29,900 (1992). It is an important port as Israel's only outlet to the Red Sea. Over 1 million tons of goods pass through this port annually, both for imports and exports. There are also pipelines between the port and ports on the Mediterranean side, such as Haifa.
