A former town in Hazu District facing Mikawa Bay in southern Aichi Prefecture. In the early modern period, it was the territory of the Kira clan, and was a prosperous area for the development of new fields through land reclamation and salt production. Yoshida, the center of the town, was once a salt shipping port and is a junction of the Meitetsu Gamagori Line and the Nishio Line. The town produces fruit and tea, and also raises livestock. 愛知県南部,三河湾に面する幡豆(はず)郡の旧町。近世吉良氏の領地で,干拓による新田開発,製塩が盛んであった。中心の吉田はかつての塩の積出港で,名鉄蒲郡(がまごおり)線と西尾線の結節点。果樹,茶を産し,畜産も行う。2011年4月幡豆郡一色町,幡豆町と西尾市へ編入。35.98km2。2万2295人(2010)。
