His most famous work as a sculptor is the Tabernacle of the Church of Orsanmichele (1359), the relief of the Assumption of the Virgin at the top of the back of which shows a combination of the firm plasticity of Giotto and the decorativeness of the Sienese school, or an elegant and soft sense of form. This duality is also evident in his painting, the Strozzi Altarpiece (1357) of the Church of Santa Maria Novella in Florence, where the facial features of the saints are depicted with sharp realism. …
