A method of organizing and storing file materials such as pamphlets, leaflets, clippings, photographs, drawings, postcards, and posters. Like books, file materials are difficult to store upright on shelves one by one, and they come in a variety of shapes and are prone to damage and scattering, so a filing system is needed to organize and store them. Typical filing systems include the vertical file method, in which files are stored vertically in cabinets, and the shelf (open) file method, in which files are arranged on shelves in boxes or other items. パンフレットやリーフレット，切抜資料，写真，図面，葉書，ポスターなどのファイル資料を整理し収納するための方法．ファイル資料は，図書と同様に書架に一つずつ立てて排架するのが困難で，形態も多様の上，破損，散逸しやく，整理保存するにはファイリングシステムが必要になる．ファイリングシステムの代表的なものに，キャビネットを用いて垂直に収納するバーチカルファイル方式と，箱などを利用して書架に排架するシェルフ（オープン）ファイル方式がある．現在では光ディスクなどを利用した電子的ファイリングシステムの開発，利用も進んできている．[参照項目] バーチカルファイル
