Aeta tribe - Aeta (English spelling)
A Negrito group living mainly on the island of Luzon in the Philippines. The population is estimated at several thousand to around 10,000. They are a nomadic people who live in small groups in the coastal areas and nearby forests of Cagayan, Isabela, Aulou, Zambales, and Camarines. They hunt, gather, and fish, but some groups practice slash-and-burn agriculture and live semi-sedentary lives today. The largest group living in Palawan calls itself Abta, and Christians call it Dumagat. The basic economic unit is the family, which lives in a simple lean-to hut made of tree branches and palms. They have a bilateral kinship organization and no specific political leader. Their religion is belief in anito and other spirits, which are believed to bring illness and death.
