It is also called "kyogenkigyo." It means false nonsense or needlessly embellished words, but is used to belittle waka poetry and stories. Playing with kyogen gamblers was considered to be breaking the precept of lying and going against the teachings of Buddhism, but on the other hand, the "Collection of Writings by Bai Juyi" states that "the mistakes of kyogen gamblers can be turned into causes for praising Buddha" (Collection of Writings by Bai Juyi of Kozanji Rakuchu), and from the Heian period onwards, the idea that waka poetry and stories could in fact lead to and aid Buddhist training was established. This way of thinking was prominent among Emperor Goshirakawa and Fujiwara no Shunzei, and proponents of the Agoin school also took this position. →Related topics: Memorial service for Genji | Murasaki Shikibu | Waka Dharani Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
