Located in Laon in northern France, this cathedral is representative of early French Gothic architecture. Its official name is Notre-Dame de Paris. Construction began around 1165, with the sanctuary completed around 1180, the west façade around 1190, and the twin towers around 1230. The cathedral is unique in France for its long sanctuary with a flat head, and the interior is four stories high and has a sextant vault. The towers are located on the north and south sides, but originally seven towers were planned. The façade is deeply carved and dynamic. The plan and elevation of the bell tower are copied in the famous 13th century architectural notebook by Villard de Honnecourt (Bibliothèque Nationale de Paris).

フランス北部のランにある，フランス初期ゴシック（→ゴシック建築）を代表する聖堂。正式名称はノートル＝ダム大聖堂。1165年頃に着工，内陣は 1180年頃に，西ファサード（→ファサード）は 1190年頃，双塔は 1230年頃に完成，ほぼ竣工をみた。頭端分が平頭で長大な内陣をもつフランスでは異色な平面構成であり，内部は 4層構成で 6分ボールトがかけられている。塔は南と北に配されているが，当初は 7本の塔が建つ予定であった。ファサードは彫りが深くダイナミックな迫力がある。13世紀の建築ノートとして有名なビラール・ド・オヌクールの画帖（パリ国立図書館）には，鐘塔の平面と立面が写し取られている。
