Born: December 24, 1901. Kimrui [Died] May 13, 1956. Soviet novelist, Moscow. Born into a family of teachers, he moved to the Far East as a boy and graduated from the Commercial High School in Vladivostok. After fighting in the civil war in the Far East and being injured, he began writing novels based on his own experiences, and made his debut in the literary world with Razliv (1923). After publishing his novel Annihilation in 1927, he became active as a leader of the proletarian literary movement and a member of the Writers' Union. He wrote works such as the unfinished novel Poslednii iz Udege (29-36) and the novel Molodaya gvardiya (45, revised 51), and committed suicide after criticizing Stalin.
