Kyogen short song - Kyogen Kota

Japanese: 狂言小歌 - きょうげんこうた

Short songs sung in Noh and Kyogen. The songs themselves and the lyrics vary depending on the Kyogen school, but there are about 180 songs collected from old notes of each school. They have something in common with short songs from the late Muromachi period to the early Edo period, when Kyogen was established, and are important materials for considering the popular songs of the time. It is difficult to say in general terms about the relationship with "Kanginshu" and other works, but some songs are newer than "Kanginshu" and incorporate popular songs from the early Edo period.

能狂言のなかで歌われる小歌。狂言の流派によって，歌そのものや歌詞に異同があるが，各流の古い書きとめの類から集められた曲は約 180曲。狂言が固定化された室町時代末期から江戸時代初期の小歌と共通する点があり，当時の歌謡を考えるうえで大切な資料。『閑吟集』などとの前後関係については，一概にいえないが，曲によっては『閑吟集』より新しく，江戸時代初期の歌謡を取入れている場合もある。
