Yasuchika Abe

A late Heian period Onmyo expert. Son of Abe Yasunaga. Served as Gagaku no Kami, Onmyo Hakase, Onmyosuke, and Daizen Gon no Daifu, and was promoted to the rank of Shoshi no Jo. In 1182, he was appointed Onmyo no Kami and Daizen Gon no Daifu. He performed Tenmon Mitsuso and various Onmyodo ceremonies. He was also famous for his accurate fortune telling. He predicted the burning of the Tsuchimikado Imperial Palace in 1148, and predicted the death of Saigū in 1172 and the earthquake in Kyoto on the night of November 7, 1179, which were serious incidents. He reported these events in tears, which drew ridicule from the nobles. However, shortly after, a coup occurred in which Taira no Kiyomori put an end to Emperor Goshirakawa's cloistered government, proving that Yasuchika's predictions were correct. 平安後期の陰陽家。安倍泰長の子。雅楽頭,陰陽博士,陰陽助,大膳権大夫を歴任,正四位上に上る。寿永1(1182)年に陰陽頭兼大膳権大夫に任ぜられた。天文密奏や陰陽道諸祭を務める。また占いがよく的中したことで有名であった。久安4(1148)年の土御門内裏の炎上を予見し,承安2(1172)年の斎宮の死や治承3(1179)年11月7日の夜京都で地震があったときに,重大な異変が起こることを予言し,泣きながら奏上したために,公卿の失笑を買ったという。しかし,直後に平清盛が後白河法皇の院政を停止させるという政変が起こり,泰親の予言の正しさが証明されたという。『平家物語』によれば,安倍晴明の血統をひき,天文学の根本を究め,その推論は正確で外れることのないことから,「さすの神子」と呼ばれていたという。<参考文献>藤原頼長『台記』,九条兼実『玉葉』,『安倍泰親朝臣記』(『改訂史籍集覧』24冊)
