Japanese: スンダルバン（英語表記）Sundarban

The area refers to the leading edge of the Ganges River Delta, which straddles India and Bangladesh. It is a large wetland stretching 250 km from east to west and 40 to 80 km from north to south, with numerous large and small branches of the river flowing through it. Tropical forests, including mangroves, spread along the natural levees and deltas along the branches, and back marshes called biru and riverbed lakes are scattered between them. Wild animals such as Bengal tigers, crocodiles, and pythons live here, and an animal sanctuary has also been established. The area is frequently hit by cyclones, and the resulting damage from high tides is severe, so development is limited to the natural levees.

インドとバングラデシュにまたがるガンガー(ガンジス)川デルタの最先端部一帯をいう。東西約250km，南北40～80kmに及ぶ大湿地帯で，同川の大小無数の分流が網流する。分流に沿う自然堤防や三角州にはマングローブをはじめ熱帯性森林が広がり，その間にビルとよばれる後背湿地や河跡湖が点在する。ベンガルトラ，ワニ，ニシキヘビなどの野生動物が生息し，動物保護区も設けられている。サイクロンの常襲地で，それによる高潮の被害も大きく，開発は自然堤防帯に限定されている。
