〘noun〙 (analogy)① To consider one thing in relation to another. Especially in logic, to infer similarities in other respects from similarities between things in a specific respect. Analogy. Comparison. ※Omoisasukoto nado (1910-11), Natsume Soseki, Volume 3: "The act of delving into the realm of philosophy through analogy, based on concrete facts."② In biology, the similarity in the form and function of organs within individuals of different species. An example is the wings of a bird and the wings of a butterfly. Similarity. ③ In linguistics, an expression made by analogy . ※Kokugo no tame ni (1903), Ueda Mannen, Koto koto (Thoughts on adjectives): "When such type A distortions have become commonplace, and there is an adjective whose root ends in 'shi,' there is no question that type B distortions should arise here, according to the great law of analogy."
