Japanese: 木之本[町] - きのもと

An old town in Ika District, northern Shiga Prefecture. The central settlement is an old post town at the intersection of the Hokkoku Kaido and a side road, and is served by the Hokuriku Main Line and the Hokuriku Expressway. Local industries include the production of raw silk for Japanese musical instruments such as koto and shamisen strings. Forestry is also thriving. Joshin-ji Temple (Kinomoto Jizo) and Shizugatake are located here, and the shores of Lake Biwa belong to Lake Biwa Quasi-National Park. In 1993, Lake Biwa was registered as a Ramsar site. In January 2010, it was incorporated into Nagahama City along with Torahime Town, Kohoku Town, Takatsuki Town, Yogo Town, and Nishiasai Town in Higashiasai District. Area: 91.92 ^km2 . Population: 8,519 (2005).

滋賀県北部，伊香(いか)郡の旧町。中心集落は北国街道と脇往還の交点の旧宿場町で北陸本線，北陸自動車道が通じる。地場産業として，生糸から琴糸，三味線糸など邦楽楽器糸を生産する。林業も盛ん。浄信寺（木之本地蔵），賤ヶ岳(しずがたけ)があり，琵琶湖岸は琵琶湖国定公園に属する。1993年に琵琶湖がラムサール条約登録湿地となる。2010年１月東浅井郡虎姫町，湖北町，伊香郡高月町，余呉町，西浅井町と長浜市へ編入。91.92km²。8519人（2005）。
