Economic Record - Keizairoku

Japanese:
Economic Record - Keizairoku

A work by Dazai Shundai, a Confucian scholar from the mid-Edo period. Completed in 1729 (Kyoho 14). Written with the intention of providing measures to "rule the world and prosper the people," it concisely describes the fundamental meanings and changes in politics, economy, society, education, military preparations, and other areas. It adds theoretical reflections on social awareness, stating that those who discuss economics should understand four things: "time," "reason," "trend," and "human feelings." On the one hand, it takes the ancient Chinese "way of the sages" as an example, and takes the position of "grain is precious, money is inferior," as a rule, but on the other hand, it puts emphasis on the reality of the evolving monetary economy and puts forward measures for feudal domain-run commerce, showing Shundai's outstanding ideas of governing the world and prospering the people. It is also an important historical document for understanding the various situations of the time.
